Gateway LT3119u Netbook Purchase

Gateway LT3119u 11.6-Inch Netbook (NightSky Black)
Gateway LT3119u 11.6-Inch Netbook (NightSky Black)
VERY UNHAPPY WITH (SELLER) CHEETAH DEALS! Computer was supposed to come with 2GB of RAM (originally from manufacturer) and showed up here with 513MB installed in it! BARELY enough to even run the basic windows 7 operating system! HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?? Nice QC Cheetah.....especially on a refurb?? c'mon guys. When I called to work this out with CHEETAH DEALS and figure out how to rectify this the guy said I could return it for a credit. Ok...seriously?? I offered the suggestion (not him) him to send me the RAM for it and he said he would. This was on a Friday. Wednesday comes and goes so I decide to call Cheetah and check on the shipment and they said that it did not even go out and they did not have one for me. This made me VERY unhappy! The woman said she would do some checking and get back to me within the hour. No call back. So I called again. They said that the package would be shipped out that day and that she would call me back with the tracking number. Again...no call back...I left it go a few days (since it was over the weekend of the fourth of July Holiday. It was indeed shipped, but to the wrong address. I finally did get the RAM and had to install it myself. I would definately be reluctant to purchase from them again. Felt like they tried rip me off and I caught them. Everything is as I'd originally

ASUS Great little computer

Disney Netpal by ASUS - 8.9-Inch Princess Pink Netbook - 5 Hour Battery Life
Disney Netpal by ASUS - 8.9-Inch Princess Pink Netbook - 5 Hour Battery Life
I bought this computer for my son as a back-to-school present (August 2010). It's a nice first computer that does everything a "real" computer should (games, internet, school stuff). The Netpal is very durable; it's been dropped a few times and gets banged around in my boy's backpack--he takes it everywhere--and has hardly a scratch on the case. The 1024 x 600 display hasn't been an issue, my son says all the games he plays (Club Penguin, Neo Pets, etc) all work even on the little screen. The "5-hour" battery life is more like 3 hours in real life, though.

Toshiba Amazing Purchase

Toshiba NB305-N600 10.1-Inch Netbook (Blue)
Toshiba NB305-N600 10.1-Inch Netbook (Blue)
I have had this notebook for a couple of days now and I absolutely love it. I'm an upcoming senior so I needed something that could handle what a typical 17 year old needs:

(1.)Microsoft Office
(2.)Something that handles internet browsing well
(3.)Fast
(4.)Something with fast video playback

This netbook achieves well in all four. Mines came preloaded with Microsoft Office Starter. While the Starter version lacks PowerPoint and Outlook, at the moment I am perfectly fine with just Microsoft Office Word. I mean it did come free.

At first I was a bit worried about the internet browsing and the netbook freezing up because several reviews mentioned that the netbook is slow. My netbook has not frozen up once and I had 5 things open (Google Chrome- 5 tabs, Microsoft Word, Skype, and a couple of folders up). Video playback has also not been a problem. Youtube and Hulu do not buffer or freeze up. I even had a ripped copy of True Blood on my flash drive which I played with no problems.

HP Mino Perfect Fit

HP Mini 210-2160NR Netbook - Pink
HP Mini 210-2160NR Netbook - Pink
My family gave me this little gem for Father's Day. It was exactly what I was looking for. I needed something small enough to be able to carry back and forth between home and work. It literally fits in my glove box. Yet it is powerful enough for me to do the work I need to get done. I have found no limitations for what I need. I use MS Word 2010, the internet with Firefox 5 and MS Internet Explorer 9 and AIM and MSN chat programs.

At first I was using this machine with just 1GB of RAM. I was perfectly satisfied with the speed. A friend suggested upgrading to 2GB of RAM just to see if it would make a difference. Wow! It sure did!

The 93% sized keyboard is small enough to make it compact and I hardly notice any size difference when I type.

All-in-all it is a great little machine.

Acer quality again!

Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 11.6-Inch HD Netbook (Espresso Black)
Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 11.6-Inch HD Netbook (Espresso Black)
For a year i have been looking for a good portable device to use while on the go and for portability. Something that can pack a punch but has a long battery life. For a few months i sat around looking for best price, battery and performance combinations. Acer was the only brand that sold higher performance netbooks for lower prices. Eventually i decided to go with the C-50 model APU because i am a fan of AMD.

Pros:

*Amazing battery life like advertised. I can easily get 5+ hours of basic internet usage.
*Great CPU power that defiantly beats any Intel Atom CPU. Can play many games such as TF2, Minecraft, and much much more on lowest settings with little to no lag.
*Amazing Graphical power! I managed to display my computer onto my 64 inch TV and play HD youtube videos with no lag
*Surprisingly fast WLAN speed. 1.2 MBPS Constant speed.
*Smooth keyboard like many of Acer's other Netbooks and notebooks.
*Very sleep look with the power button and the angling of the screen hinges, it also has a very unique "water droplet" imprint as most people have mentioned.

Cons:

*Allot of bloatware to remove when you first boot it up. Took me like an hour to get it all set up to use.
*Warmer then other netbooks but it definatly has better sometimes stats so i can't complain

Notes (things that don't affect value but could be better):

*Easy to smudge (but then again all portable devices are}
*Flexing keyboard as others mentioned, it doesn't flex enough to worry me so i'm okay with it.
*Battery looks like it doesn't go in right because it's at an angle. Not noticable on any of the pictures online. Adds an 1/8 of an inch to the width. Not a big deal just strange.

3.0 out of 5 stars It can't play Netflix in HD mode!!, August 12, 2011
This review is from: Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 11.6-Inch HD Netbook (Espresso Black) (Personal Computers)
After reading all the reviews, I decided to buy this netbook, use it as media center connect my master bedroom tv, it's fine when you stream 480p or play any 480p files on ext-hard drive, but..if you using Netflix stream HD mode, lag lag lag!!

I'm using Charter cable internet, download speed tested 10-16mb per second, upload tested speed is 1-1.5mb per second, I have no problem with all other 3 laptops playing 1080p either stream or play files, even the oldest Sony laptop(2006) with the 1st gen intel dual-core t-2050 1.6ghz CPU and intel on-board video 4500 chipset is working perfect! I don't how other review show this netbook able to play 1080p, I did clean all the useless software, finish the update for window and update the latest video drive from AMD, it just not work for me.

Excellent Tablet, ASUS is a superior electronics maker

ASUS Eee PC 1015PX-PU17-WT 10.1-Inch Netbook (White)
ASUS Eee PC 1015PX-PU17-WT 10.1-Inch Netbook (White)
I'm writing this review on the 1015PEM version. I bought my white tablet the first week they sold on Amazon, along w/the 2G Crucial RAM upgrade. At the time (05/10) it was the first dual core 10" tablet. I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and MS Office (07) Suite and purchased the ASUS external DVD-RW drive and mouse (all matching white). This little tablet runs it all, and significantly outperforms my HP Pavillion 17" XP laptop, which I rarely even use now. Thus far, the ASUS has been flawless and fast. I'm not a gamer, so not concerned with such performance, and I have a 1/2T external hard drive to do regular backups. Battery life is 3X any other laptop I've ever owned (including Sony, Dell, HP) and is the fastest so far

Toshiba NB505-N508TQ 10.1-Inch Netbook (Turquoise)
Got this mini-notebook just before going on a trip to Alaska and upgraded the RAM to 2GB right away. It is really a neat little machine, and will replace my full-sized Toshiba laptop I have had for some time, due to its small size and elegent efficiency.

Windows 7 Starter takes a little getting use to, but then I am an old died-in-the-wool XP fan. Once that little learning curve is achieved, you get a better feel for what this little gem is capable of, and your repect for it allows you to cut it a bit of slack and get the most out of what it can do so well.

Gateway Ideal Starter Computer

Gateway LT2105U Factory Refurbished Netbook
Gateway LT2105U Factory Refurbished Netbook
This is a great computer so far. It picked up my Internet connection at home as soon as I turned it on. It's great for surfing, checking email, watching your Netflix movies and even writing. I am a part time freelance writer,so it's perfect to take on the go because it is so light. I bought an extra USB hub that has 4 extra USB hook-ups since the computer only had 3. I also bought an external DVD/CD player too since it didn't have one. The sound is alright, but if you are going to watch movies or listen to music, it is wise to buy some external speakers. I bought a sound bar that hooks up to USB port at Wal-mart and now it sounds just as great as a stereo.

HP Mini 210-3050NR Netbook (Red)
I waited for this particular version with the BEATS audio and I think it was well worth the wait.

One NOTE OF CAUTION: The amazon website shows more of a maroon shade but the actual product is bright RED.

1) Processor Speed and RAM - Would have been good to have 2 GB RAM but since this netbook was for my mom, I didn't bother to get an upgrade. But if you are using this netbook for browsing and Skype etc, 1 GB RAM is good enough.

Acer Awesome ultra-portable with proper set up

Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 11.6-Inch HD Netbook (Espresso Black)
Acer Aspire One AO722-BZ454 11.6-Inch HD Netbook (Espresso Black)
I got my mother this laptop because her Emachines em250 at 10.1 inches was to small and to slow for watching HD movies. Since she loved my Acer 1410 ultra-portable so much I got her this (Same basic design as the 1410). The AMD Fusion C-50 is a power house if used correctly. Unlike my 1410 which is cpu strong but gpu weak (HD4500 Intel graphics), The C-50 is cpu weak, gpu strong. Which is not a bad thing for this class of laptop. The cpu is fast enough for all your web surfing, writing documents, etc. and is way faster then any Atom cpu.

The real gem here is the gpu which allows offloading from the cpu. Most of the new browser supports gpu offloading, when using the proper codecs (I recommend cccp codec pack)The laptop can run 1080p content with no issue. It has a very bright and sharp 1366x768 HD lcd led screen with good viewing angles. It has good build quality for its price range, the lid is a fingerprint magnet.

My previous netbook pooped out on me, so I was obliged to get another. This netbook has been quite the upgrade! It's much faster than my old one, and it has a much better battery life. I've been consistently getting at least 8 hours out of my battery. I think this computer is a good value.

Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 Netbook.... Done right

Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 0647-2BU 10.1-Inch Netbook (Black)
Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 0647-2BU 10.1-Inch Netbook (Black)
My first ever Lenovo. Really like the netbook. I already downloaded Win 7 Home Premium with no trouble, not enough features on Win Starter for me. This is well worth the money. I always try to buy mfg reburbished in order to save money. Haven't had any trouble so far.
What a great netbook .. we have 3 other Netbooks in the household ... a Toshiba NB 305 , Samsung 145 , and an Asus 1015 PEM .. all are really good products . What I can see right away is the refinement in the Lenovo... All are really similar in processing performance. At this point I would give the overall lead to the Asus ( Dual Core) ... but the difference is barely noticeable even when multi-tasking. The Toshiba and Samsung have Atom 450 , the Lenovo Atom 455.

Samsung NF310-A01 Very Usable Netbook

Samsung NF310-A01 10.1-Inch Netbook (Titan Silver)
Samsung NF310-A01 10.1-Inch Netbook (Titan Silver)
Originally, I bought an Acer Netbook from Costco because it looked like a cheap alternative to an tablet. Some issues immediately became clear. First, when playing music, Netflix video, or YouTube video, the sound was almost imperceptible even at full volume. I wear hearing aids, and with the hearing aids, my hearing is pretty good. With or without my hearing aids, I realized that I could never use the Acer netbook for entertainment without external speakers. Next, the video resolution was such that my view of web pages was so small that browsing required a lot of both horizontal and vertical scrolling. I returned the Aspire One to Costco. However, I now knew enough to have some real criteria for my search.

I wanted a netbook:

1. with sound good enough for basic, personal entertainment use -- without external speakers in a pinch.
2. with enough screen resolution to make browsing and basic apps more comfortable.

Toshiba I love this little computer

Toshiba NB505-N508GN 10.1-Inch Netbook (Green)
Toshiba NB505-N508GN 10.1-Inch Netbook (Green)
It's small, and perfect for surfing during ballgames, writing in cafes, reading in bed; anything where smaller and lighter is better. The speakers aren't great but I don't use them much. I love it.
There were many disparaging reviews about this Toshiba netbook but I'm very satisfied with it. It's light, the monitor is clear and bright, the keyboard is bigger than most netbooks and the speakers are pretty decent. It's nice that the covers come in different jewel tones and that the keyboard has a surface that doesn't show fingerprints. Plus it has 3 USB ports. Most netbooks have two.

For its price, I can't complain. But it would be nice if it came with more RAM because sometimes, it slows down. Not enough to become unproductive but impatient people like me need to upgrade the memory. I also wish that Windows 7 Starter isn't installed on most netbooks. It's so basic, really bare bones. I am also upgrading that. Ditto with the Office Starter. It only includes Word and Excel and not the full versions. Of course, this is all for pushing the consumer to buy more. But I would rather pay more and have everything in place already.

Dell Inspiron Mini 1018 4034CLB Netbook (Clear Black)
Every review that questions the speed of this netbook perplexes me. It does everything I want to to with normal speed. I use Firefox, Skype, Steam, iTunes, Pidgin, Thunderbird and all of them work perfectly and load up in a matter of seconds. I am dual booting Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Remix and even that work really well. The only hardware that didn't work right after install Ubuntu was the Wi-Fi adapter. I was able to find drivers and install that easily and I am new to Linux. On Ubuntu, I was able to get Skype, Pidgin, and Thunderbird installed in addition to what comes with Ubuntu (Firefox and others). On Windows 7, I am running Steam and on there I have been able to run games like Plants vs Zombies, Flight Control HD, Doom 1&2, Star Wars Jedi Knight series. It

Lenovo This Review is Long as...

Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 0647-2BU 10.1-Inch Netbook (Black)Lenovo Ideapad S10-3 0647-2BU 10.1-Inch Netbook (Black)
First off, I am a college student. I was not looking for a top-of-the-line machine. I wanted the basics (something for email, word processing, web browsing, etc.) in a pc that was convenient to use and to carry around.

THE MACHINE
Before even shopping for a computer, I made the intention that I was not going to buy extra memory; I didn't have the funds for it and I didn't see it as a necessary expense. But now I'm considering it IF I can find a 1 gb stick for cheap, because sometimes it runs choppy with several programs open. But it doesn't slow me down enough to be a problem, so I can't say it's a deal breaker.
